Art In History’ s replica is an example of a pottery jug from Ancient Rome. The vastness of the Roman Empire, and the different regions under Roman rule, led to varying styles of “Roman” pottery. In the 1st century AD, painted pottery was produced in Rome’s southern and eastern provinces near Petra and Nubia. Art In History’s replica is an example of this type of pottery made for use in cooking, or for storage of food or wine. The pink-bodied ware was decorated with plant-scroll and other simple designs.
